Synopsis

The man attacked his mother-in-law while his wife was not home The rape survivor is a cancer patient and was too weak to resist attack She informed her younger daughter who in turn alerted the police

In a shocking incident, Kerala police arrested a 55-year-old man on charges of raping his 70-year-old mother-in-law. The victim happens to be a cancer patient, who have been undergoing treatment for past several months. 

The accused, Madhu, is a daily wage labourer from Kuriyathu in Manacaud. The incident took plays three days ago.

The woman was too weak to resist the attack and suffered injuries resulting in urinary infection. She then alerted her younger daughter who in turn alerted the police. 

"The woman was not planning to file a complaint, and it was the police who convinced them to file the complaint," Fort police station sub-inspector P S Shajimon said. 

The accused committed the crime while his wife was away from home. She is working a Margin Free Shop in the city. 

The woman has two daughters, and she lived with them in turns since the demise of her husband. The accused, who is an alcoholic and substance abuser, had made advances towards her earlier too, but she remained silent as she did not want to hurt her daughter.
