The Keralite mother of Sherin Mathews, the missing child from Texas, has spoken about the incident for the first time, through her attorney, five days after the 3-year-old girl disappeared from her house.

Attorney Kent Starr met with Sini Mathews at her residence in Richardson for about two hours on Wednesday. Speaking to mediapersons afterwards, Starr said his client was distraught and does not have any information about what might have happened to Sherin.

Sini is not facing any charges for the disappearance of Sherin in the wee hours of Saturday but her husband Wesley Mathews was taken in and charged with child abandonment before the local church got him out on a bail bond of $250,000. Wesley had to surrender his passport and was fitted with an ankle monitor as terms of his bond.

Starr says Sini wants both her daughters back - Sherin, her adopted daughter who has gone missing, and her biological 4-year-old daughter, who taken away by Child Protective Services after Sherin's disappearance.

“She does not know the whereabouts of Sherin, and all she wants is for her daughters to be returned to her,” Starr said, adding that a potential conflict of interest is the reason why Sini and her husband have separate attorneys. "Everybody has a right to legal counsel. The mere fact that Wesley may be accused of a crime is not indicative of Mrs Mathews.”

The FBI evidence response team and Richardson police had executed a search warrant at Mathews' house and premises on Tuesday to seek clues that might lead to Sherin. The police had earlier stated that both parents are no longer cooperating with the investigation.

Wesley's attorney has so far declined to comment on the case. Wesley had told the police that Sherin went missing after he made her stand outside the house by a tree at 3 am on Saturday as a punishment for not drinking her milk.  He reportedly returned to get his daughter about 15 minutes later and discovered she was gone.

However, the Keralite notified the police that his daughter was missing only five hours later. He said he went inside and did some laundry, hoping she would return on her own. was reportedly asleep at the time of the incident.
