An assistant sub-inspector committed suicide while on duty at a police station in Kozhikode on Saturday night.

ASI Ramakrishnan, 49, hailing from Peringalam, hanged himself at the Chevayur police station at around 8.30 pm on Saturday. His body has been shifted to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.

Ramakrishnan, who started general duty at 8 pm, went missing when the other policemen were having dinner, according to reports. He was found dead in an old room attached to the main building minutes later. He was in his uniform.

Some of the colleagues have reportedly said that Ramakrishnan was visibly upset in the last couple of days. The city police commissioner visited the Chevayur station soon after the incident, A probe has been ordered.

Ramakrishnan was transferred to the Chevayur station from the Kozhikode town station recently. He was also the drill inspector of the student police cadre at a local school. He is survived by wife Sreeja and sons Jithu and Vaishnav.
