No human rights violation in Hadiya case, says police report

Kerala police have informed KHRC that they cannot take the statement of Hadiya The police gave the report in a petition filed by Muslim Youth League state president Sayyid Munavvar Ali Shihab Thangal The police were advised they cannot take the statement of Hadiya as a petition filed by her husband is pending before the Supreme Court.

Kerala police have informed state Human Rights Commission (KHRC) that they cannot take the statement of Hadiya based on a complaint filed by a political outfit.

The police gave the report in a petition filed by Muslim Youth League state president Sayyid Munavvar Ali Shihab Thangal alleging human rights violation to Hadiya. 

Kerala High Court had annulled the marriage of Hindu girl Akhila Ashokan, who converted, chose the name Hadiya and married a Muslim youth, Shefin Jahan.

Human Rights Commission had asked the police to file a report whether there is any human rights violation in the case as alleged and if the officials can take the statement of the girl. The police report states that neither the police nor her father Ashokan has done any act that leads to violation of her human rights. 

The police had sought the legal opinion from Advocate General and senior government pleader D Narayanan advised the officials that they cannot take the statement of Hadiya as a petition filed by her husband is pending before the Supreme Court.

It was also advised that the police might have to face grave consequences in case of such efforts.
