Cadell Jeansen Raja, the accused in the Nanthancode killings, has been ruled unfit to face trial in the case.

The medical report submitted at the first class judicial magistrate court in Vanchiyoor, Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday stated that Cadell is not mentally stable, and hence he cannot face trial.

The 30-year-old is the sole suspect in the case, where he murdered four members of a family including his own parents and sister at their home at Nanthencode, right next to the official residence of the Kerala Chief Minister, in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram city last month.

The massacre came to light on April 9 after locals, who saw smoke emerging from the house, alerted the police. Cadell was arrested from the Thampanoor railway station the next day.

Though the youth confessed to the crime, the police are yet to unravel the motive behind the killings as he kept on changing his version of events. One of the reasons Cadell told the police initially was that he practices Satanism and was trying out astral projection, a form of telepathy which is capable of 'releasing the soul from the body'.
