In a suspected incident of moral policing, a group of persons attacked a 43-year-old woman and youth in Chithara in Kollam. The duo was allegedly barged out of her house and beaten up after they were tied to a tree.

The woman lives alone in the house as her son is working in another city. Her husband had left her some years back.

On June 12, a friend of her son visited the house and this is believed to have provoked the gang.

Both the woman and the youth lodged separate complaints mentioning the names of gang members. Based on their complaints police arrested seven persons, but they were soon let off on bail.

As per the complaint, a group of men barged into the house of the woman on June 12 night and dragged the woman and the youth, a friend of her son, outside. They tied the victims to a tree for about two hours and beat them, the complaint said.

The neighbours informed the police and by the time they came the group members had gone.
