Kerala offices to be 100% environment-friendly from today, here is how

Synopsis

The Green Protocol ('Haritha perumattachattam')  will be strictly implemented in government offices today onward. The head of the office will take the responsibility of implementing green principle in the institution.

From today onwards the government offices in Kerala will use inkjet pens and cloth packets instead on ball pens and plastic packs.

Harithakeralam Mission has already issued the government offices a circular to an effect that the 'Green Protocol is to reduce waste'. All government departments and institutes in the state will take an oath regarding the green protocol mission. 

Harithakeralam Mission and Hygiene Mission propagated by the respective departments will conduct awareness programs for this purpose, including training programs. Hoardings will also be put up to indicate the Green Protocol. The State-level inauguration of Harithotsavam organised by Harithakeralam Mission under the Education Department aims at transforming public schools into green schools. 

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the Harithotsavam in S.M.V Higher Secondary School Thiruvananthapuram. Harothotsavam is an event organised by the school to organise ten festivals aimed at creating a greenery-friendly school atmosphere for students to connect with the concept of greenery practically.

In 2017, 86 lakh seeds were planted in the state under the leadership of Harithakeralam Mission. The objective is to plant three crore seedlings by the end of 2018 through the notable project, which will be launched on today (June 5).

Forest Department, Department of Agriculture, Environment Department, Department of Education, Local Self Government Department, Clean Mission, voluntary organisations, other departments in the government will also join hands to make the Harithakerala mission a success.

Essential suggestions on the Green Protocol are Only ink pens should be used in government offices. Disposable cups, plate, straw, glass, spoon, plastic bottles, tiffin boxes, carry bags etc. should not be used. Plastic tins, carry bags should not be used in the office. Only cloth materials and boards can be used for campaigns. Reusable food utensils should be used.
