A postgraduate student was found dead in the hostel of the Central University of Kerala in Kasaragod's Periya on Monday.

First-semester M.Ed student Viswambharan, 30, who hails from Kanhangad, slipped and fell to his death in college hostel's bathroom in the early hours of Monday, according to reports.

Viswambharan's hostel mates found him hours later and took him to Kasargod district hospital with the help of some hostel employees. However, he was declared brought dead.

Since it was a long weekend, on account of Gandhi Jayanti, most of the students had left the hostel and gone home. However, the hostel remained open for students from other states.

Viswambharan had cleared several competitive examinations and was close to getting a job as a teacher but wished to complete the course. Bekal police has registered a case of unnatural death and started a probe.
