There will be big hurdles in life but never give up"

A poignant yet heartwarming Facebook post from a Kerala man, written as a tribute to his brave wife who lost a long battle with cancer, has touched several hearts and is now being shared widely across social media platforms.

Describing a selfie that he took with his wife and child in front of the Kaloor international stadium during the Indian Super League (ISL) season last year, Kochi resident N Ramesh Kumar said it's one of his favourite photos ever.

Ramesh's wife Ashwathy aka Achu expressed a desire to see her hero Sachin Tendulkar during her last days, back in October, after learning that the cricketing icon would attend a match featuring Kerala Blasters, an ISL team that he co-owns.

“'We are all going to die one day, I am not afraid of death. Will you take me to see Sachin?' she asked me."

It was a time when Achu was undergoing a rigorous chemotherapy after the disease relapsed for the second time. Despite her deteriorating health and being aware that a trip to the stadium amidst all the rush could compromise her condition, Ramesh arranged for the tickets and took his wife and child to the match.

"I felt it was the right thing to do. I couldn't tell her we can go next time because we all knew there won't be a next time."

When Tendulkar arrived on the field to greet the fans, Achu cheered on with thousands of others in the stadium who were chanting "Sachin... Sachin" in unison. The moment of the fulfilment of his wife’s last wish became such a memory for Ramesh as he says Achu had never looked more beautiful in her life.

Ramesh points out how Achu bravely fought cancer for years by telling the disease everyday that "you can only weaken my body, you cannot weaken my spirit, no matter how hard you try".

The Facebook post went viral and has gained over 31,000 likes and around 11,000 shares so far. Ramesh ends the post by saying he didn't put it up to gain sympathy but wants it to be a message of hope and courage for people who are battling cancer.

"Achu set an example to follow with her determination and courage even in the most testing times. There will be big hurdles in life but never give up. Be brave and fight till your last breath. Life is beautiful, enjoy every bit of it. All the best,” Ramesh signs off.
