The Kerala government has decided to give Rs 2 lakh solatium each to the next of kin of four persons who died standing in queues, in the wake of last year's demonetisation. 

In Kerala, four persons - C Chandrasekharan (68) from Kollam, Karthikeyan (75) from Alapuzha, PP Pareed from Malappuram and KK Unni (48)from  Kannur - lost their lives last year, when they were standing in front of banks and ATMs to exchange the banned Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes.

A decision in this regard was taken at the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

A number of people in the country had died because of exhaustion from standing in extremely long queues after the Central government announced the scrapping of currency notes of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 on November 8.
