Graft allegations against Thomas Chandy: Is Kerala NCP headed for a split?

The NCP in Kerala is reportedly on the verge of a split with several party leaders and workers planning to join the Kerala Congress (S).

It is understood that the move comes after the rising discontent within the party against NCP leader and Kerala transport minister Thomas Chandy following corruption allegations against him, reported exclusively by Asianet News.

Recently, around 10 NCP district leaderships had held a secret meeting to decide on the action to be taken against Chandy. A decision in this regard will be made at the party's state executive meeting scheduled for August 20.

Meanwhile, the Alappuzha municipal corporation is currently looking into encroachment allegations against Lake Palace Resort, owned by Chandy and his son. It is alleged that Chandy's establishment encroached into several acres of land near the Punnamada Lake, which the government had handed over to the farmers

Earlier, the NCP youth wing has asked for an investigation into the alleged use of taxpayers' money for the construction of a road leading to the Lake Palace Resort.
