Synopsis

Police seized unaccounted money worth ₹79 crore from two Vengara natives It is suspected that the amount was brought to Vengara, where by-polls will be held on Wednesday The police had earlier seized ₹9 lakh during checking conducted as part of the election

Kerala police have seized ₹79 crore from two persons at Kuttippuram in Malappuram on Tuesday. The unaccounted money was seized from Siddique and Abdurrashiman, both natives of Vengara.

It is suspected that the notes were being brought to Vengara, where Assembly by-polls will be held on Wednesday. The police seized the money when the duo reached Kuttippuram Railway Station.

They were planning to take the money to Vengara in a car after getting down at the railway station. The police had earlier seized ₹9 lakh during checking conducted as part of the election.

Reports claim that there has been a massive influx of illegal money to Vengara since by-poll was declared. The election was announced after sitting MLA P K Kunhalikutty vacated the seat to contest a by-poll in Malappuram Lok Sabha constituency which he won by over 1.7 lakh votes.
