1,595 people arrested for circulating fake news in Kerala

Chief minister refused to answer one of the questions asked by an MLA, and he enquired about how many cases had been registered against people who posted messages on Facebook against the Chief Minister, to which he responded that both were different incidents and that he could answer him if asked separately. 

The 11th Kerala assembly session began on Monday (3 June) at 9 am. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan advised Keralites to stay alert against the fake messages circulated on social media. 85 criminal cases have been registered, and 1,595 persons have been arrested in connection with the false WhatsApp message circulation issue.

Newly elected MLA Saji Cherian, who won by 20,956 votes, over his nearest rival D Vijayakumar was sworn in after the question hour session on Monday (June 3).

Kuttiady MLA Parakkal Abdulla was seen wearing a mask and gloves in the assembly to bring the Nipah virus threat to the attention of the House. Health minister K K Shailaja condemned his act calling it an attempt to belittle a severe issue.
