
Wayanad: During a rescue operation, the Indian Army successfully located four survivors—two men and two women—stranded in Padavettikunnu, Wayanad on Friday (Aug 02). The operation was conducted with meticulous attention to ensure the safety of all those involved. A casualty evacuation was organized, utilizing an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) to assist in the rescue. The prompt and efficient execution of the operation enabled the timely evacuation of those who were stranded.

Unfortunately, one of the rescued women is having trouble with her leg and is currently receiving the required medical care.
As the rescue efforts continue with utmost urgency, the state remains in a state of shock and grief, grappling with the enormity of the disaster that has ravaged two villages. Scenes of despair and sorrow fill the air in Chooralmala and Mundakkai, where residents mourn the loss of loved ones and homes. Officially, the death toll stands at 199, comprising 89 males, 82 females, and 28 children, with post-mortems performed on 181 bodies. However, locals claim that approximately 200 individuals remain unaccounted for, their fate unknown, amidst the devastation wrought by the landslide.
So far, relatives have identified the remains of 133 individuals. Furthermore, rescue teams have recovered 130 human remains and body parts from the affected area. Authorities have confirmed that 116 complete bodies and 87 body parts have been returned to the families of the deceased.
Numerous survivors are currently receiving medical attention at various healthcare facilities. As per official reports, a total of 264 individuals are hospitalized, with the majority being treated in Wayanad. Additionally, around 90 people are receiving treatment in hospitals located in neighboring districts, including Kozhikode and Malappuram, due to the severity of their injuries.
