Operation Toofan: 69 More Held As Kerala Drug Arrests Cross 10,000!

Kerala's massive anti-drug drive, 'Operation Toofan', is still going strong. Police have arrested another 69 people, pushing the total number of arrests past the 10,000 mark to 10,154.

KOCHI: The Kerala Police's 'Operation Toofan' continues to crack down on the drug trade across the state. In the latest sweep, cops arrested 69 more people in 62 different cases.

This brings the total number of arrests under the operation to a staggering 10,154, with 9,407 cases filed so far. The total haul from the operation includes a massive 8411.909 grams of MDMA, 1036.350 kg of ganja, and 4730.159 grams of hashish oil.

In the last 24 hours, police filed 20 cases for small quantity possession, three for medium quantity, and four for commercial quantity. Another 35 cases were registered under Section 27 of the NDPS Act, and 48 cases under the COTPA Act. From these recent arrests, police seized 122.030 grams of MDMA, 4.175 kg of ganja, one gram of heroin, and 2.25 grams of hashish oil.

Besides the crackdown, the police are also running a major awareness campaign. Yesterday alone, they conducted 41 awareness classes across Kerala. So far, they have held 9,217 such classes and 587 counselling sessions. School and College Protection Groups have also organised 6,588 awareness events.
