Kollam: Man Gets Life Term For Killing Friend Over Booze Money Share! Read On

A Kollam court sentenced a man to life in prison for beating his friend to death. The accused, Jyothi Kumar from Kilikolloor, murdered Vadakkumbhagam resident Anil Kumar after a fight over sharing money for drinks.

Kollam: A local court handed a life sentence to a man who killed his friend during a fight over sharing money for alcohol. Kollam Additional Sessions Court Judge C M Seema sentenced 53-year-old Jyothi Kumar to rigorous life imprisonment. Jyothi Kumar, a resident of Kuttiyil Kizhakkethil house in Kallumthazham, Kilikolloor, murdered 49-year-old Anil Kumar from Jyothis house in Vadakkumbhagam. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict. He will have to serve an extra six months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.

The shocking incident took place on the night of September 13, 2020. The two friends were drinking together at Anil Kumar's house. A heated argument broke out between them over sharing the cost of the alcohol. The prosecution stated that Jyothi Kumar grabbed an iron pipe from a two-wheeler and smashed Anil Kumar on the head, which led to his death.

The court found the accused guilty based on strong circumstantial and scientific evidence. Thekkumbhagam Police Station Inspector R Rajesh Kumar led the investigation and filed the charge sheet. Additional Public Prosecutor Jayakumar K K Kunnathur represented the prosecution in court.
