A three-year-old Zebra named Hemavathi fell into a ditch in Bannerghatta National Park (BNP) and died on Monday late night, reports Kannada Prabha. Ditches have been dug all over the Park to plant various plants. The Zebra had fallen into one of the ditches and could not climb up and died. It is learnt that the Zebra was pregnant.
The Park officials have shown negligence towards the animals falling into ditch, allege wildlife activists, especially in taking care of rare animals. Two pairs of male and female Zebras were imported from Tel Aviv zoo in 2015 November. They were kept in enclosure and only recently visitors were allowed to see them. One of the female Zebras was pregnant and in the unfortunate incident it died.
