Woman cheated of Rs 2.60 lakh on the promise of marriage by a man she met online

In yet another case of online fraud in the disguise of NRI looking for marriage, a 29 year old woman from Koramangala is cheated of Rs 2.60 lakhs, The woman had registered her name in the jeevansaathi.com, a portal for alliances and one Mohammad Abdul responded to her post. He said he was living in New Jersey in US with his parents, he would bring his parents to India and they would get married soon. He sent her a gift and the courier office said she had a parcel which contains Rs 1800 Dollors (Rs 11.64 lakhs) and she has to pay a GST of 18 percent. After she transferred the money the courier service and the man disappeared, his account at jeevansathi.com deleted. 

In yet another case of online fraud in the disguise of NRI looking for marriage, a 29 year old woman from Koramangala is cheated of Rs 2.60 lakhs, reported Kannada Prabha.

The woman had registered her name in the jeevansaathi.com, a portal for alliances.  One Mohammad Abdul responded to her post and they both chatted and finding each other to be ok they exchanged phone numbers and started talking. 

Soon Abdul proposed and she accepted. He said he was living in New Jersey in US with his parents, he would bring his parents to India and they would get married soon. She believed him. After some days he called her and said he was sending her a gift through courier and obtained her address. After a week he informed her he had sent the gift by courier.

After some time a young woman called her claiming to be from courier office and said she had a parcel which contains Rs 1800 Dollors (Rs 11.64 lakhs) and she has to pay a GST of 18 percent. The woman eager to receive the gift transferred Rs 2.60 lakhs to the account number provided by the ‘courier staff’.

After a few hours she got a mail from the courier agency that she has to credit another Rs 2.11 lakhs. On suspicion the woman called the number she had received a call earlier but it was not working. Immediately she checked the jeevasathi.com website and found that the account with Mohammad Abdul was closed. She realised she was duped and lodged a complaint with the Koramangala police.
