Vegetables, flowers prices crash from Rs 100 to Rs 20

Synopsis

Good rains have brought down the prices of vegetables and flowers.  Onion and Tomato which were selling at Rs 100 are now less than Rs 20 and Rs 30 per kg. The only anxiety being along with the prices, demands also crashing. Heavy downpour has affected jasmine crop and naturally low supply has caused high price.

Good rains have brought down the prices of vegetables and flowers. Onion and Tomato which were selling at Rs 100 per kg are now available for less than Rs 20 and Rs 30. Carrot that was old at Rs 120 last month is available at Rs 36 to Rs 56 now.  Ladies Finger costs Rs 31 per kg. Potato is Rs 22 per kg, reported Kannada Prabha.

The consumers are heaving a sign of relief as the skyrocketed prices of vegetables and flowers had made them tighten their purse strings. Now, with good rains, and crashing prices they are ready to celebrate festivals with more rigour. 

Added to this, the farmers are also happy as the yield is very good.  The only anxiety being along with the prices, demands also crashing. Many vegetables could not be stored due to rain and they rotted.  Hence farmers are selling away easily perishable vegetables at throw away prices. However, demand for jasmine flower is on the rise.  Heavy downpour has affected jasmine crop and naturally low supply has caused high price.

Farmers are making the most of it. Jasmine is being sold at Rs 700 to Rs 800. Kanakambara is being sold at Rs 500 to Rs 600. Sevanthi is sold anywhere between Rs 20 to Rs 100 depending on quality. Rose is sold at Rs 50 to 60. Dasara Navaratri has created demand for fruits and flowers said KR Market flower vendor Diwakar.
