Traditional healers will not be considered fake doctor: Health Minister K R Ramesh

The government will implement a policy soon to safeguard the interests of the traditional healers. The work force set up to identify fake doctors will also identify traditional healers. Several methods have been formulated to identify fake doctors

The State government is planning to implement a policy to safeguard the interests of traditional healers in the rural areas, within a month said Health Minister K R Ramesh.

Answering a query by BJP’s S V Sankanur with regard to the menace of fake doctors, the minister said there are still families of traditional healers and they are helping people. They are not fake doctors. A policy will be implemented to safeguard the interests of such traditional healers, he said.

Several methods have been formulated to identify fake doctors and there is a work force engaged in identifying fake doctors. The same force will also identify the traditional healers and they will not be included in the list of fake doctors, he clarified.

The Karnataka Private Medical Colleges Revision Bill is devoid of any prejudices or hatred. The bill can be debated and if found agreeable to public interest it can be passed said Ramesh. A joint council committee is not necessary in this regard and formulating a joint committee will delay the proceedings, he said.

During question hour Eshwarappa said the Karnataka Private Medical Colleges Revision Bill has not yet been tabled at the Assembly and hence asked Ramesh to formulate a joint council committee. Responding to this Ramesh said a committee was formulated 9 months ago to device the bill. After a debate at the Assembly in this regard, formulating a committee in the public interest can be approved, he said.
