The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has not collected taxes from 343 apartment complexes constructed in the last three years. The building owners and the BBMP officials are hand-in -love in cheating the BBMP to the tune of Rs 200 crore, alleged M K Gunashekhar, chairman of Tax and Finances Standing Committee.

Speaking at a press meet on Thursday, he said the BBMP has given Occupancy Certificates to these huge apartment complexes three years ago but it has not collected tax till now.  The Tax and Finances Standing Committee has gathered information about tax defaulters and it says 25,000 flats in 343 apartment complexes have not paid tax since three years causing a loss of Rs 200 crore to BBMP, reports Kannada Prabha.

This tax violation figures are from the Urban Planning section of Central Office that have issued Occupancy Certificates only. Information about zonal wise buildings that have been issued Occupancy Certificate in eight sectors are not available. MK Gunashekhar said he has written 15 times to the Commissioner and he in turn has instructed his subordinate officers to look into the issue. But there has not been any response so far. He also said that the BBMP has not provided any information on the number of Occupancy Certificates issued in the eight sectors and if it is not made available in next one week, he would get the committee headed by BS Patil, appointed by the government, to investigate the issue.

Meanwhile, BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad said that it has come to his notice that new constructions are not under the tax bracket and has instructed the Mahadevapura commissioner to investigate into this. He also said that the delay may be due to the officials being preoccupied with the Khata Mela and tax collective drive.
