PETA may understand stray dog menace if their children suffer dog bites: Baig

Urban Development Minister Roshan Baig blamed the People for The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) organisation for not allowing to free the cities of stray dog menace. He went on to say that they seem to be not understanding the seriousness of the menace. "Perhaps, they may realise if any of their children were attacked by stray dogs," the minister wondered.

Minister Baig was reacting to the complaints of stray dog menace in Hubballi-Dharwad City Corporation submitted by MLC Basavaraj Horatti at the Legislative Council, reports Kannada Prabha.

Horatti complained that children are falling victims to stray dog menace in the twin cities. Besides, there is a rise in accident cases due to dog chase. But not much is being done to curb the menace despite repeated complaints, he rued.

Responding to him, Baig blamed the PETA for the failure to curb the menace.

"If we want to clear stray dogs from Vidhana Soudha PETA has a problem with it. PETA's fundamentalism is proving bottlenecks in addressing the issue," said Baig.

He further said that PETA made it a big issue when the authorities decided to clear stray dogs from Vidhana Soudha premises. Even Mankea Gandhi joined them. "These fundamentalists become a road block to the problems. They fail to understand the real issues," Baig slammed. They may understand the problem if the stray dogs attack any of their children, the minister said.

On pig menace in the twin cities, Baig said a farm had been set up on the outskirts of Hubli to accommodate stray pigs. But Horatti opposed the move and called to make the twin cities free of pigs, reports Kannada Prabha.
