The old methods of smuggling drugs into the jail by hiding it in cricket ball, ragi mudde, biriyani, sweetmeats, undergarments, milk cans etc are all passe, now, the latest is the easy way of just exchanging footwear at the court.
The undertrials at Parappana Agrahara jail wear old footwear when they are taken to the courts and return wearing brand new footwear. The secret behind the new foot wear is drugs hidden in them. Friends and relatives who come to visit the undertrials when they appear at court bring new sandals. The police found no fault in allowing the undertrials to receive new chappals at court. But it was found during a routine check up at the jail that these new, specially designed footwears were used to smuggle drugs into the jail.
Parappana Agrahara jail superintendent Krishnakumar confirmed this to Kannada Prabha and said cases have been booked against 3 undertrials in this regard.
