Police shoot and catch habitual inter-state thieves, who attacked police

Synopsis

Three miscreants who were stealing from a clinic in Lakshmipura, under Vidyaranyapura limits, at midnight were shot at by police. When the police tried to catch the thieves they attacked the sub inspector Annayya with lethal weapons. Seeing Annayya injured on the chest inspector Punith shot them on leg and arrested them  The arrested have over 200 cases of theft and looting against them in Hasan, Udupi, Chikkamagalur in the State.

Three miscreants who were stealing from a clinic in Lakshmipura, under Vidyaranyapura limits, at midnight were shot at by police when they assaulted sub inspector Annayya attached to Vidyaranyapura station, reported Kannada Prabha.

Ashok (19) of Chikkaballapura, Narayanaswamy (29) of Gauri Bidanuru had opened the shutter of Modern Clinic at 12.25 midnight. Another thief Sudhakar (27) was waiting outside on vigilance.  Vidyaranyapura police inspector Punith and sub inspector Annayya were on patrolling and saw Sudhakar standing outside in a suspicious manner. When they tried to catch him the other two attacked Annayya with lethal weapons.

Inspector Punith shot in air to scare them but the culprits charged towards him. Punith then shot them on their legs. All the 3 were arrested.  Annayya has been injured on the chest and is undergoing treatment at the government hospital in Yelahanka.

Both Ashok and Narayanaswamy are habitual thieves with several cases  lodged against them in Nandhini Layout, Sanjay Nagar, Kodigehalli, Yelahanka  etc. Narayanaswamy has cases booked against him in Udupi and other places. Both Ashok and Narayanaswamy are jail birds. They were out on bail and continued to steal. Sudhakara is a new entrant into their gang who they used to stand outside on vigil.

The arrested have over 200 cases of theft and looting against them in Hasan, Udupi, Chikkamagalur in the State as well as in Ananthapura in Andhra Pradesh. Some of the gang members are staying at Gauri Bidanur. The police said they would take them also into custody for inquiry.  The three have been arrested.
