The Supreme Court’s judgment that bans selling of alcohol within 500 meters of National Highways may force many pubs located near Old Madras Road, and Hosur Road to lose their charm and chill. Both these highways pass through the city, and within its 500 meters, there are several pubs selling liquor.
Adjoining areas near the Old Madras Road and Hosur Road has many famous pubs and resto bars that earn huge revenue by selling alcohol. The liquor bar may cause revenue loss for these places.
According to a leading daily report, the bars located outside Bengaluru city limits have shut down, and many of them are relocating. However, many of these bars are yet to receive any official notice.
The Karnataka state excise department renews the licences on the month of July of every year, and therefore, the deadline for shutting of pubs is June 30.
Meanwhile, the National Restaurants Association of India’s managing committee member, Ashish Kothare, was quoted by the New Indian Express saying that the decision to shut outlets within the city does not make any sense. Also, this association is planning to approach the excise department to discuss the matter, the same report claimed.
