In yet another incident, an Ola driver sexually assaulted a singer off Hosur road at 2 am on Friday. The woman launched a complaint with the Bommanahalli police on Sunday. According to the woman, the driver took a detour on the pretext of avoiding the main road.
The woman was returning home after attending a karaoke night at Kormangala. She booked a cab to her house in Begur, which was just 5 kilometers away. In the complaint, she said, "On the way, the driver stopped opposite Kebab Zone on Begur Road on the pretext of avoiding something on the road." The driver then allegedly took off to a different, deserted road and stopped. He sat still in the car for a few minutes and then turned back and grabbed the woman. “I screamed, but he didn't stop. I pushed him and jumped out of the cab. He followed me. Luckily , there was a hospital close by and I requested security personnel to allow me inside," said her statement to the police.
Meanwhile, speaking to the Times of India, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield) M Narayana said, "We have details of the driver. We have formed three teams led by an assistant commissioner of police to track him down." The driver has been booked under Section 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman) and other sections of the IPC.
Ola too has issued a statement saying, "We have terminated the driver partner from the Ola platform as soon as we received a complaint from the customer. We have assured the customer full support in further investigation of the issue."
