Marathon IT raid on DK Shivakumar yields Rs 11.43 crore

Synopsis

For over 24 hours now, the IT officials have been grilling Energy Minister DK Shivakumar and his associates The Raids have been conducted on 64 locations and properties so far Apart from cash, the IT sleuths have seized real estate documents, benami property shares and jewelleries

The Income Tax sleuths have seized Rs 11.43 crore as on Thursday after conducting marathon raid on 64 locations and properties linked to Energy Minister DK Shivakumar since July 2. While they seized Rs 8.33 crore in Delhi, Rs 2.5 crore from Bengaluru and Rs 60 lakh from Mysuru, according to PTI. The IT sleuths have been grilling the minister and his associates, relatives over alleged tax evasion.

The IT officials have also seized various documents related to real estate, account books and financial papers apart from jewelleries too. However, the valuation of jewellery found during the searches is still being done. Besides, some of the documents including benami ones are still being verified by the officials. Some of the shell firms and their operatives have already come under the IT scanner and the officials are probing their role.

It may be recalled here that the IT officials raided the Energy minister DK Shivakumar at the Eagleton Resort where he is hosting Gujarat Congress legislators. The raid then shifted to his house at Sadashivanagar, his father-in-law's house in Mysuru, mother's farm house near Kanakapura and other relatives. The officials have also raided Dwarakanath, an astrologer with whom the minister has been associated with for nearly 30 years. The officials have raided other persons who are remotely associated with the minister.

As per the affidavit filed by the minister during the 2013 Assembly polls, Shivakumar had assets over Rs 251 crore and including those of his wife and children and liabilities of over Rs 104 crore.
