Even as the memory of 3 Pourakarmikas’ death in a manhole in Kaggadasapura is fresh in public mind, another incident of a Pourakarmika made to get into a manhole right in front of Vidhana Soudha to clear the clog has been reported.

While one man got into the manhole and manually removed the plastic and other solids that had blocked the sewage another man on top collected them in a handcart and pushed away. This is a gross violation of Supreme Court order that manual scavenging is prohibited and machines must be used to clean sewage, reported Kannada Prabha.

The contractor who was responsible for this has been identified as Krishna, attached to Social Welfare Department. A complaint has been registered against the contractor for this violation. The Pourakarmika was not even given safety devices.

The sewage water was flowing high to drown a man yet the man was made to get down.  Venkatesh, president of Safai Karmachari Commission responded that a case has been booked against the contractor. Case will also be booked against the officer in charge. Such acts should not be repeated.

This has been strongly condemned by public as the photo and news went viral on social media.
