A green bus with the name ‘Democracy Travels’ with the photo of Muhammad Ali Jinnah was doing rounds on social media.
The bus was first spotted by Neeraj Kamath, former core committee member of NaMo Brigade. Almost immediately after the picture was posted, it riled up several residents.
A few tried calling the travel agency to check, other complained to the police. One man, Abhishek Singh, said that the Karnataka government was providing Pakistan Democracy Bus Service in Bengaluru with Jinnah’s picture on it. He asked if anyone would campaign against it and pledge to lynch the owner inside the bus and burn it.
Some people blamed the Congress government and said that Karnataka would become the next Pakistan.
Another man also tagged the Bengaluru Traffic Police, who stated that they would inform the matter to the concerned authorities.
However, the picture was on the bus for an entirely different purpose.
The bus was being used for a Malayalam movie starring Suraj Venjaramoodu and Rima Kallingal and it is being shot in Bengaluru. Alt News reported that the owners usually placed a board on the bus saying that it was a prop, but had forgotten the day the pictures were clicked.
The Times of India reported that Kamath spoke to director Jubith Namradath and asked him to remove the picture. But the director refused, citing creative freedom. The owners’, fearing a backlash, removed the picture of Jinnah.
