Synopsis

Shivalingappa Bevinakatte from Honnakatti in Bagalkot district did not have any financial trouble. The ailing man was being looked after by a relative called Santhevva as his wife and son lived in Hubballi.

Shivalingappa’s son is pursuing Engineering in Hubballi, and his wife decided to reside with the son. Thus Shivalingappa who was ill for quite some time now succumbed to illness on Monday. he had sold his 19 acre-land eight years ago and deposited Rs 70 lakh in his wife’s name.

The residents of the village had informed the wife of Shivalingappa’s death. She came to the village, and sources also said she was asked to take care of Santhevva and to deposit some money in her account for safety.

But the wife is said to have vanished at night before the funeral. The villagers found out that there was no one in the house except for Santhevva. With no other way, some took the initiative, collected money from the villagers and performed the final rites of Shivalingappa.

However, his wife has another version of the incident. The sold land is under contention. Thus, when I came for the funeral, the relatives assaulted my son and me and abused us. Thus as there was no other way, I was forced to return to Hubballi. I have not run away but have filed a complaint in this regard at the Bagalkot Police Station, quoted Prajavani, which spoke to Shivalingappa’s wife.
