Man arrested for blackmailing, extortion school citing RTE violation

Synopsis

The police have arrested a man, president of an organisation, who was attempting to extort money from schools by blackmailing. He was threatening he would lodge a complaint that the school was violating RTE rules, and demand money and seats. The school administration refused to give him money and he created ruckus by throwing chairs and tables.  Around 18 blackmail complaints are registered against him in Magadi Road, Kamakshipalya and Rajagopala Nagar police limits.

The Rajagopalnagar police have arrested a man, president of an organisation, who was attempting to extort money from schools by blackmailing threatening he would lodge a complaint that the school was violating RTE rules, reported Kannada Prabha.

Ravi, president of Vidyarthi Poshakara Jagruthi Vedike, had protested in front of Kiran School in Rajagopalnagar, alleging it had violated RTE rules. Then he placed demand for Rs lakh or 25 seats to the school administration and the administration refused to give him money. Ravi arrived at the school and created ruckus by throwing chairs and tables. The school administration lodged a police complaint and based on the complaint Ravi has been arrested, said the police.

Ravi hails from Kolar district and has been residing at Ramayya extension, Rajagopala Nagar for some time with his family. His educational qualification is 4th standard. He was working as a centring labourer in construction. He then formed a Poshakara Jagruthi Vedike and made his son Nagaraj as the vice-president and his wife as the treasurer. He made it a habit to complain that schools are not giving seats under RTE or collecting excess fees and threaten the school administration and demand money.  Around 18 blackmail complaints are registered against him in Magadi Road, Kamakshipalya and Rajagopala Nagar police limits.

Ravi barged into Kiran School ar Rajagopala Nagar a few days back and demanded Rs 2 lakhs or 25 seats. When the school administration denied, he created ruckus by throwing chairs and tables. The school lodged a complaint and Rajagopala Nagar police arrested him.
