A case of Muslim man allegedly kidnapping a Hindu boy to marry off with his daughter near Pandavapura in Mandya district has taken a new twist with the boy completely denying this, now.
Parents of Chandan (19) had approached the police alleging that his son was kidnapped by Yousuf to allegedly marry off his daughter with him. They also alleged that Chandan was being "brainwashed" to convert into Islam. The parents backed by fringe Hindu organisations urged the police to stop the boy from marrying the Muslim girl. They alleged that this was another case of 'Love Jihad'.
It is said that Chanan was in love with the Muslim girl. His parents who got to know about it - two days ago - asked him to forget the girl but in vain. It is said that the girl's father is very keen to get his daughter married to Chandan. But fearing his parents' wrath, Chandan left his house. Fearing, his parents lodged a missing complaint with the police and accused Yousuf of allegedly kidnapping him, reports Suvarna News.
As the news channels began airing the story, Chandan - while speaking to a news channel - denied that he was not kidnapped. He further said that his parents did not approve of his relation with the Muslim girl. "I was beaten for two days. I was very scared. So, I left the house and had been staying at my friend's place. I know the girl for the past four years and we like each other. I will marry her, once I turn 21," he told mediapersons. He also denied the fact that he was forced to convert to Islam.
It may be recalled here that last year, Mandya had attracted headlines nationwide, after a Hindu girl decided to marry a Muslim man. While both the girl and the boy had the blessings of their parents, Hindu organisations went on to threaten the girl and even the parents. The girl along with her parents stood her ground to marry the boy who was her classmate. The Hindu organisations were furious at the fact that she had changed her name after the marriage. However, the marriage happened with tight police security.
Of late, Mandya has been witnessing such incidents. Added to it are the honour killgings. These incidents clearly show the deep divide in the society.
