Synopsis

Dasara celebrations hit as the City receives heavy rainfall through Tuesday night Srirampura Layout has turned into an island. Fire personnel have rescued the residents in boats Bogadi tank has breached its bund flooding Vijayanagar and Bogadi areas

Heavy rains lashed Mysuru playing spoilsport to the Dasara celebrations. Areas like Srirampura Layout, Bogadi have turned into an island. The Srirampura Layout that is located in the heart of the city has been marooned. People are literally locked inside their houses as the road in front of their houses has been inundated. Residents, speaking to TV crews narrated how they were trapped in their own houses. The rainwater has entered some of the houses in the low-lying areas. Similar was the situation in Kanakagiri Layout. But here instead of complaining, people were seen enjoying swimming competitions in the waterlogged canal. The fire personnel have rushed to the area and are pumping out water from the area. Besides, they have shifted the residents to a nearby area in boats.

Residents of Bogadi were cursing the Mysuru City Corporation as their houses were marooned after the Bogadi tank breached due to heavy rain. Even the Chamundi Hills stairway looked like waterfalls of sorts. This has upset many who usually climb up the stairs to reach the Chamundi Temple. During dasara, devotees prefer to climb the staircase but with heavy rainwater gushing down the stairways, devotees have been stranded at the foothills.

The Open Street, scheduled to be inaugurated on the seventh day of Dasara, September 27, had to be postponed due to the heavy rains.
