The report submitted by retired IAS officer, Vinay Kumar, on irregularities in the Central Jail of Bengaluru has been accepted. Accordingly, the inquiry will be held against Superintendent Krishna Kumar and Deputy Superintendent. But in a surprising move, an inquiry has been ordered against DIG Roopa, the whistleblower of the irregularities in Bengaluru prison, Parappana Agrahara.
The then Prisons DIG Roopa had submitted a report stating irregularities in the Central Jail, Parappana Agrahara in Bengaluru. She had accused that higher officials in the jail have received Rs 2 crore to provide royal facilities to Tamil Nadu's AIADMK politician Sasikala (also a convict in the DA case) inside the jail.
But this accusation was rubbished by Prisons DGP Sathyanarayana Rao. This had led to a war of words between Roopa and Sathyanarayana Rao. Ultimately, the Karnataka government ordered a probe in this issue. A committee under retired IAS officer Vinay Kumar was formed to investigate the matter.
The committee has now submitted its report, and accordingly, the inquiry will be held against the Superintendent, deputy superintendent and even DIG Roopa.
