“I am old, I cannot come to the police station. Since you know my address if the investigating officer comes home I will give full details”

This is the gist of the letter sent by former chief minister and State BJP president B S Yeddyurappa to the ACP Anand Badiger, Malleshwara Sub Division. The letter was sent through Yeddyurappa’s lawyer to ACP Anand Badiger at Malleshwara station. This was following his absence at the investigation on Sept 28.

The letter detailed that as per rules, a senior citizen cannot be called to the station, and instead the investigating officer should go to the senior citizen’s house to interrogate.  The letter also stated that the allegation that the kidnap plan of Vinay, coordinator of Sangolli Rayanna Brigade, was hatched at Yeddyurappa’s house at Dollors’ Colony is false. Since hundreds of Party workers come to his house every day, it is not possible to observe everything personally.  He has never interfered in police investigations ever, he stated.

Yeddyurappa wrote this letter in reply to a notice issued to him. Also his lawyer presented himself before the investigating officer and responded to the notice.  The notice has been issued under Section 91, his client is willing to provide all cooperation to the investigation.

The notice does not state to submit any material or documents. Hence it is not necessary to be physically present before the officer.  The officer can go to Yeddyurappa’s house and interrogate him, the lawyer said.

A notice was issued 10 days ago to Yeddyurappa to be present on Sept 28 for investigation by ACP Anand Badiger, with regard to Vinay’s kidnap attempt case.  Yeddyurappa did not attend the investigation. Yeddyurappa said he is old and cannot come to the police station. The notice was issued to Yeddurappa as his PA Santosh’s name is involved in the kidnap attempt case. The arrested in the case had revealed that the plot to kidnap was hatched at Yeddyurappa’s house.
