Bengaluru: Here are ten important things that BBMP Budget 2018 has to offer

Bengaluru's municipal governing body, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has released its own budget for the city The total outlay of the budget is Rs 9,326.87 crore Mayor Sampath Raj also gave a statement on the budget exclusively to Asianet Newsable

After the Union and Karnataka state budget, Bengaluru's municipal governing body, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has released its own budget for the city. The budget was presented by the chairperson of the BBMP’s Standing Committee for Taxation and Finance M Mahadev in the presence of city mayor Sampath Raj and other corporators. The total outlay of the budget is Rs 9,326.87 crore. Here are a few important sectors the BBMP is focussing on:

1) Air ambulance service for which Rs 5 crore is allotted in each zone for construction of helipad

2)  A total allocation of Rs 63 crore has been made for welfare programmes for the specially-abled, such as providing tricycles, Jaipur Foot, financial assistance for self-employment

3) Rs 45.26 crore is allotted where they propose to plant 200 saplings in each ward along with tree guard for a greener Bengaluru

4) Free Wi-Fi will be provided across Bengaluru city with free Wi-Fi hotspots in 400 major roads, BBMP offices and bus stands

5) Rs 1.20 crore is earmarked to provide Rs 5 lakhs fixed deposit for education of the 'first girl child' born on or after January 1, 2019, in all 24 maternity hospitals of the Palike

6) Rs 2 crore allotted to provide rent-free freezers for preserving dead bodies of poor families in case of delayed cremation

7) To encourage students of school and colleges of Palike to pursue higher studies, a cash prize of Rs 25,000 each to top 150 students of SSLC and Rs 35,000 each to top students of II year PUC will be earmarked. They should pass out in April 2018

8) Nada Prabhu Kempegowda Jayanthi to be celebrated at BBMP head office and war offices. Rs 1.5 lakhs earmarked for the occasion

9) Establishment of well equipped Media Centre. Rs 2 crore earmarked for this purpose

10) Rainwater harvesting structures and pits in all parks maintained by Palike. Rs 5 crore earmarked for this
