HDK objects to "tainted officer" investigating into Gauri Lankesh killing

Synopsis

JD(S) leader expressed dissatisfaction over officer appointed to look into the Gauri Lankesh killing  Former chief minister calls the investigating officer, a tainted officer  He, however, did not mention the name the officer

Former Chief Minister and JD(S) state President HD Kumaraswamy has expressed his dissatisfaction over an investigating officer appointed to look into the Gauri Lankesh killing. He even went on to call him, a tainted official. "What kind of investigation can one expect from an officer accused of selling the confiscated gold," reports Kannada Prabha.

Kumaraswamy alleged that the investigation has been given to an officer who seized 7 and half kg gold stolen and sold 50 per cent of that to purchase land at Banasawadi. How fair is it to hand over the investigation to him, he questioned. He, however, did not name the officer. He further said that investigation must be handed to an honest officer and not tainted officer. Gauri Lankesh killing is a serious crime and it is essential that honest officers head the team. He also criticised that even three days after the crime, not a single clue is obtained and CCTV footage is still being watched.

He also questioned if the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah brought to the notice of the Home Minister the setting up of SIT and also whether the Home Minister was consulted or was it formed on the advice of  Kempaiah alone. He wanted the new Home minister Ramalinga Reddy to do some introspection on it.

He insisted that the Naxal angle cannot be ruled out totally. Referring to Central Minister Ravishankar’s suspicion about Naxal’s involvement, Kumaraswamy said it cannot be brushed aside, so casually. AS every state has informers to provide information to the Centre, that angle should also be looked into, he appealed.
