The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has issued a circular that the furniture and movable property inside your house will be confiscated by the Palike if you have failed to pay your property tax.
The BBMP will start issuing notices to those who have not paid the property tax from April 1. From the date of the notice, people can still file their property tax within 15 days. If the Palike sees no response, then it will seize the movable properties from the house, including TV, fridge, furniture and anything which is worth and movable.
There are 18.5 lakh properties under BBMP, and accordingly, the Palike should collect Rs 4,000 crore in property tax annually. But it has been successful in collecting only Rs 2,000 crore property tax in the year 2016-17.
