Modern gadgets are the sure bets to teach the current mobile generation. Not just in the urban but also in rural regions. For the first time in the State Anganwadi children are taught using tabs in the remote village of Montuguli Anganawadi, Balepuni village in Bantwala taluk. Along with tabs, solar lamps are also installed at the Anganawadi that enables the tabs to be recharged.
Following on the footsteps of Montaguli Anaganawadi, other Anganawadis in Kadri Padpu and Beriga in Puttur also started using tabs to teach children.
The Selco Solar Company and Selco Foundation experimented by donating solar panels and tabs to Anganawadis last January. Two tabs at Rs 30,000 and solar panel at Rs 26,000 the total expenditure comes to Rs 56,000. A part of it is being given by the Anganawadi or Gram Panchayath or with the help of people’s representatives. The rest of the money is taken care of by the company. Janashikshana Trust is the guiding force behind this idea. The tab education is implemented in select Anganawadis in the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
The children are loving it. Anganawadi teacher at Biriga Aruna says the tab is very helpful in teaching Kannada and English. The children especially like the visuals. Nature, animals, science and other pictures are very attractive to children.
Since the trial has proved very successful plans are on to provide tabs and solar panels to all 150 Anaganwadis in the district.
