Every year there is a surprise planned for Mysuru Dasara. This year too Karnataka government has come up with a unique plan. And it has been revealed two months in advance. It is called “Tent Tourism”.

The state administration has decided to put up tents in the 50-acre land adjacent to the Mysuru Palace to accommodate tourists coming from all around the country and outside India. Living in tents will be a different experience and close to the place where Dasara celebrations are held in October this year.

The Tent Tourism was a big hit during the Rann festival in Gujarat. Now, Karnataka is keen to follow the Gujarat model. And preparations have already begun in Mysuru.

During the Rann Utsav last year in December, at least 400 tents were put up. As per requirements, the tourists can book an AC or Non-AC tent. They were put up on the outskirts of Kutch village in Gujarat. In fact, Rann is also known as the tent city.

But, in Mysuru, this model will be tried for the first time. Despite several arrangements, every year there are some lapses. Either stalls don’t come up on time or proper arrangements are not made for various troupes coming to Dasara to perform. So, this year, arrangements have started much early and it is expected that with tents being the special attraction, Dasara this year will be a memorable experience.

As per official records, more than 11 lakh tourists visited Mysuru during Dasara in 2017. This year, it is likely to go up.

The Tent Tourism project will be done by Jungle Lodges & Resorts and an action plan is being prepared by the state Tourism Department Director Kumar Pushkar, according to Star of Mysore newspaper.
