Karnataka: Free bus passes for the third gender commuters

All third genders in the City will be given free bus passes to all routes shortly announced Mayor R Sampathraj. He held a meeting with the third gender organisations on Tuesday at the BBMP East Range office. The third gender members complained that BBMP has Rs 2 crores ear marked for the welfare of the third gender is not utilised.

All third genders in the City will be given free bus passes to all routes shortly announced Mayor R Sampathraj, reported Kannada Prabha.

He held a meeting with the third gender organisations on Tuesday at the BBMP East Range office. The third gender members complained that BBMP has Rs 2 crores ear marked for the welfare of the third gender to train them in computer, beauty parlour, auto driving and free bus passes but none of that has been implemented.

Responding to this, the Mayor called BMTC chairman on phone and spoke to him suggesting to give free bus passes to third gender. The cost will be reimbursed by the BBMP he confirmed.

BMTC chairman immediately agreed for the proposal and on the spot several third genders submitted the applications. Mayor instructed the officials to send them to BMTC and get passes at the earliest.  The Mayor also assured that the Rs 2 crore ear marked for third gender welfare will be utilised appropriately.
