Father booked for losing child to the pothole in Udupi

Father was booked by the Manipal Police after he lost his 18-month-old child when his vehicle hit a pothole. In a  shocking development, a father was booked by the Manipal Police after he lost his 18-month-old child when his vehicle hit a pothole.

The incident occurred on October 2 but has come to light now. Umesh Poojary was travelling from Manipal to Hiriyadka with his wife and child on a two-wheeler. Even before Umesh realised, the two-wheeler was on the pothole; the vehicle toppled as Umesh lost his balance. Chirag, who was sitting of his mother's lap was thrown away from the bike and died on the spot. Parents escaped with minor injuries.

As if this shock was not enough the cops made Umesh's brother-in-law Krishna Poojary to book a case against  Umesh who had just lost his child.

The Manipal police are said to have written the complaint copy for  Krishna who was in a shock of losing his nephew. Without realising what was written Krishna signed the copy and Umesh were booked for rash driving, endangering life of others and causing death by negligence under IPC Sections 279, 337 and 304 A respectively.

Reacting on the matter, Udupi Superintendent of Police Dr Sanjay Patil told the Indian Express that he cannot comment on why was the father booked. The truth will come out after the investigation and it will be clear if it was rider's negligence or engineering fault.
