Congress High Command supports separate religion status for Lingayats

Synopsis

High Command supports Siddaramaiah’s stand regarding Lingayata separate religion But stresses to take into consideration the unanimous decision of the community With this, the rumour that Congress High Command was opposed to CM’s stand is put to rest

The Congress High Command has given a clear message to the State Government to take a call depending on the united decision of the Lingayat community, regarding declaring it as a separate religion. The State government must take into confidence the leaders of the community, understand their stand and act accordingly. Not that the State government must retract its current decision but its decision must be inline with the united decision taken by the Lingayat community, said the High Command, reports Kannada Prabha.

The Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had expressed that if the Lingayat community agreed in unison, the State government is ready to recommend their demand for declaring Lingayat as a separate religion. Close on the heels of this news came the rumour that Congress High Command had objected to this stand. However, considering the recent developments in the State in this regard, the High Command has supported the stand taken by Chief Minister. It has stressed that the CM should take into consideration the unanimous decision of the community, sources say.
