BBMP expedites process to issue compensation to rain victims

BBMP commissioner has instructed officials to distribute compensation to the families who lost their kith and kin due to rain havoc in Mahalakshmi Layout and Rajarajeshwari Nagar legislative constituencies in the City, reports Kannada Prabha.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during his visit to rain havoc regions had announced to release Rs five crore as compensation to rain-hit victims. The BBMP officials held an emergency meeting and decided to conduct 'Mahajar' at the rain havoc regions, identify victims and make a list of the eligible to expedite the process of awarding compensation. Cheques were handed over to the victims on Monday in the presence of local people’s representatives and officials.

It was also decided to convince people living in the low-lying localities to shift to a safer place. Arrangements would be made with regard to accommodation, food and toilet, said BBMP commissioner Manjunath Prasad.

Accordingly, temporary boarding has been arranged at three localities for people of Mahalakshmi Layout at Manjushree Kalyana Mantapa at Kurubarahalli, Yoga Kendra at Satyanarayana Layout and Government school at Kurubarahalli. All facilities have been provided. Also, Rs 2 crore has been released for providing compensation to rain victims at Rajarjeshwari Nagar and Mahalakshmi layout.
