Cabinet approves new culture policy for Karnataka

Synopsis

The new culture policy recommended by a committee headed by Baraguru accepted. The new culture policy requires Rs 59.68 crores for implementation. A separate university to be instituted for the study of tribal community culture and preservation. Sanctioning 100 acres for establishing Sangolli Rayanna Adventure Academy.

The State Government has decided to implement the new culture policy recommended by a committee headed by author Baraguru Ramachandrappa, announced Law Minister T B Jayachandra on Monday, reported Kannada Prabha.

Jayachandra said the report submitted by the committee was placed before the Cabinet a year ago.  Some recommendations in the report needed to be debated and hence a sub committee was formed headed by Minister H K Patil.  

Based on the suggestions made by the sub committee the new culture policy has been approved, he said.  The recommendations include a separate university to be instituted for the study of tribal community culture and preservation, bringing pressure on the Central Government to award Constitutional recognition to Tulu language, increase in the pension for authors and such other issues. The new culture policy requires Rs 59.68 crores for implementation.

The other recommendations are: Sanctioning 100 acres for establishing Sangolli Rayanna Adventure Academy, improving the method of conservation of the Archeology Department, regular disbursement of awards by Kannada and Culture Department, improving the award status, strengthening various authorities, changing the names of academies, instituting scholarships and fellowships, government organising border area and outside Karnataka, Kannada Utsavas, research and development of Kannada software, construction of Rangamandiras and uniform maintenance, establishing Rangayanas and formulating policies to manage them, rules to give preference to local talents, folk repertories, Centre to sell art works, new policy for Karnataka Kala Grama etc.
