The State Government has decided to develop the century-old Bowring Hospital into a super-speciality medical college Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will lay foundation stone for the college on Nov 8 The project is envisaged at a budget of Rs 200 crore

The State government has decided to develop the century-old Bowring Hospital into a super-speciality medical college. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be laying the foundation stone for the college on Nov 8, reports Kannada Prabha.

The project is envisaged at a budget of Rs 200 crore. It will include Bowring, Lady Curzon and HSIS Ghosha Hospitals under its umbrella. A 13-storied building incorporating the 1,040 bed capacity Bowring Hospital and 120 hospital capacity Ghosha Hospital will be constructed. It will be the country’s first skill development super-speciality college and research centre.

The college will lay stress on research in the medical field along with teaching and providing medical services. State of the art instruments and technology will be provided at the Centre. Qualified faculty and subsidiary staff will also be appointed. Each floor consisting 35,000 sq ft will have separate department. A total of 10 departments will be established, with preference given to skill development, research and training in respective departments.

At Ghosha Hospital, an outpatients department at Rs 20 crore with grant by PWD Department will be constructed. Another Children’s Ward will be constructed at Rs 25 crore budget under the National Rural Health Mission project. At Bowring Hospital, an Emergency Unit at Rs 17 crore budget under NRHM project and a food court at Rs 5 crore budget will be constructed. These have been approved by Minister Ramesh Kumar and HC Mahadevappa informed Dr K S Manjunath, director of Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospitals.
