In a move to facilitate the taxpayers and enable improved decentralised administration, the BBMP has resorted to add two more administrative zones to the existing 8 and made it 10. Abiding by the suggestions of the BBMP Restructuring Committee headed by BS Patil, the BBMP has abolished old names South, East and West zones and introduced new zones like Sarvajna Nagar, Jayanagar, Malleswaram, Gandhinagar and Vijaynagar to the existing Yelahanka, Dasarahalli, Mahadevapura, Bommanahalli, Rajarajeshwarinagar.
A report to this effect was submitted by the committee a year ago. The move was done to eliminate lapses and resubmitted to the State government. The revised proposal has been agreed to and order issued also. The report advised to take into consideration the population, imbalance in revenue and divide BBMP into five sectors, with each zone consisting two zones.
The State government has also decided to appoint new officials to head the zones. High level officials from the government will be deputed; existing BBMP officials will be given promotion and new appointments will be made. It is expected to have 10 zonal commissioners of KSA officer cadre, 10 chief engineers along with other senior officials.
