Soraba readying for fight between Bangarappa sons in next Assembly polls?

Synopsis

Kumar Bangarappa and Madhu Bangarappa are the sons of former chief minister S Bangarappa While one is in BJP, the other is an MLA  from JD(S) There are rumours about their sister's entry to Congress

The Soraba constituency in Shivamogga district which was synonymous with former chief minister S Bangarappa once is all set to witness siblings rivalry. The fact that the siblings are the sons of Bangarappa makes the constituency all the more interesting.

Although, the elections are still a year ahead, the stage has already been set for brothers' fight and the duo too are not wasting any time. Brothers - Kumar and Madhu Bangarappa - have never kept their rivalry under wraps. It was far too evident, after their mother passed away.

Bangarappa, a socialist leader had represented Soraba constituency for seven consecutive terms - from 1967 to 1994. On majority of the elections, he contested on a Congress ticket. After, he quit the seat to contest Parliamentary elections in 1994, he allowed his son Vasanth Kumar - popularly known as Kumar Bangarappa - to contest from the seat, reports Bangalore Mirror. Kumar is a Sandalwood actor turned politician. He retained seat in 1999 and was also a minister in the then SM Krishna government.

In the later days, he followed his father to BJP from Congress but he quickly returned to Congres. Meanwhile, Madhu joined JD(S) and even contested polls from Soraba. Presently, Madhu Bangarappa is a JD(S) MLA who defeated KJP's Haratal Halappa in 2013.

In last March, Kumar upset over being sidelined in the party, quit Congress and joined BJP, for the second time. Rumours are rife that Kumar Bangarappa would be the BJP candidate from Soraba constituency, while Madhu would contest on a JD(S) ticket.

After Rahul Gandhi visited Dr Rajkumar family to condole the death of Parvathamma Rajkumar's demise, rumours are rife that their sister Geetha Shivarajkumar is expected to join Congress. If she joins and gets a ticket for Soraba, the constituency will witness a never-before election in the state where siblings will fight for the seat from different parties.
