
The Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s ambitious project of providing affordable food through Indira Canteen, inspired by Amma Canteen, has a rival in Appaji Canteen, to be started by a JD(S) MLC.
MLC TA Saravana is in a hurry to launch Appaji Canteen in the name of JD(S) national president HD Deve Gowda, even before Indira Canteen. He has started the construction of the first Appaji Canteen at 50 feet road in Hanumanthanagar. The canteen will serve Idli, Vada and Khara Bhath at Rs 5 per plate. Pongal will cost Rs 10. Ragi Mudde, Bassaru, rice and rasam and rice bhath will also cost Rs 10. The timings are also fixed. Breakfast will be from 7.30 am to 10 am. Lunch from 12.30 pm to 2.30 pm. However, dinner will not be served. Saravana plans to start the first one in Hanumanthanagar and then extend it to all constitutions. He has started the project funding from his pocket. Deve Gowda is affectionately called Appaji.
