Loans drive BJP leader to shoot self inside temple sanctorum

A BJP leader from Belagavi district committed suicide by shooting himself inside a temple sanctorum He was distressed as he could not repay the loans he had taken from bank, cooperative society and friends He had 4 acres of land and had taken loans and because of drought the crops had failed  

A BJP leader from Belagavi district committed suicide by shooting himself inside a temple sanctorum. Shivanagowda Basanagowda Patil (52) of Turakara Sheegihalli in Bailahongal taluk, Belagavi district was distressed as he could not repay the loans he had taken from bank, cooperative society and friends as the crop failed due to drought. He took out his revolver and told his family he was going to the farm. However, he went to the Girimalleshwara temple in the village and shot himself inside the sanctorum.

Villagers who heard the revolver shot rushed to the temple to see Shivanagowda dead amidst blood inside the temple. He had four acres of land and had taken loans and but to drought the crops had failed. As a result, he was distressed that he was unable to repay the loan.
